Boat Trailer
For those of us who don't rack store our boat, the boat trailer and trailer hitch assembly are probably the next most important pieces of accessory equipment we can own in relation to this pastime.
Unless you choose to leave you boat in the water or on a lift somewhere, you'll likely need a way to transport your rig to and from the water.
Having the right trailer is crucial to the proper support of the hull, as well as to the safety of everyone on the highway when you're towing.
If the hull isn't properly supported, it could lead to significant and expensive damage to the hull.
Likewise, if the trailer isn't built to support the load plus gear and fuel, and if the braking system isn't in good and operable condition, significant property damage and possible injury could result if you ever get into a "hard stop" situation.
If you're ready to buy a new trailer, check your state laws regarding brake system requirements before you commit to your final specifications. Not all states have the same requirements.
Know the dry weight of your rig, and then add to that the estimated weight of a full tank of fuel, fresh water if applicable, and any gear onboard. Once you've got your specs. in hand, check out the manufacturers listed below to find one who builds what you want or need. Be sure they ship to your area and what dealers they sell through. Look to see who builds product suitable for use where you boat, whether in salt water or fresh, and if you're buying a bunk trailer, ask if they have the specs. to custom build to fit your particular hull.
Good luck, and please be safe on the road. It can lead to a great day on the water.
